The Pink Floyd Story: Which One's Pink?

I've just finished watching this documentary on the BBC iPlayer. Pink Floyd is a band I know but not intimately. Who hasn't heard of The Dark Side of the Moon and how it's STILL selling.

I remember my Dad bringing home the double album The Wall and sitting in the living room with the head phones on and listening to it in its entirety in one go. I was too young to really grasp the concept of the story and the music was a little out there for a 14 yr old girl. I recall a sense of slight depression after such an intense listen.

I learned more of 1973's The Dark Side of the Moon while enrolled in an Engineering course. It was referred to on numerous occasions when teaching about tape loops, use of synthesizers and how anything is possible if you are open to new ideas and experimentation as Engineer Alan Parsons did when working on this album.

I probably became more of a fan of the band when Roger Waters left and David Gilmore took over as the lead. I preferred his vocals and today can truly appreciate his talent on the guitar. Plus, he was quite the hottie when he was young ;)

Meddle, Wish You Were Here, A Momentary Lapse of Reason...

I wonder if FOPP has any Pink Floyd on their cheap wall?

Ahh, Floyd. I saw them in concert, but after Roger Waters had left. It was at the Rose Bowl, in Southern California. When we left, we looked back to see an immense dome of smoke, trapped inside the dome, bubbling over the edge. It wasn't cigarette smoke.

I saw the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in Raleigh, N.C. - it was exceptional.

The LP cover does not have any writing on it.... just the white wall.

Listened to it this afternoon on the Harbeth Monitor 40.1's.

Dave - I remember having a long conversation with a friend of mine when he got home from the concert and he told me all about it. His seats were at the top of BC Place Stadium (an enclosed stadium, kinda looks like a marshmellow in bondage). The next morning when he awoke he had no recollection of getting home or talking to me about the concert ;)

John - I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live. But I've heard it said from my engineer buddies that they are one of the few bands that know how to play a stadium in terms of accoustics.

Dad - I had a number of different album images to choose from, but figured the cover with the writing on it was the better choice as the blank wall would have blended in a little too much with the background. And your thoughts listening to it again after how many years??

I was always a tune/beat more than lyrics person. This time round I listened to the lyrics of all the songs and can see why you felt it was a bit heavy. I had also forgotten about all the strange voices adding bits of colour and forcing your to listen harder to see if you can figure out what their saying.
