Sitting alone on the hillside
Looking out towards this new city
She thought to herself
What was I thinking
Did I make the right decision
What did I think would really change
Everything
Nothing
Does it really matter
Does it?
Once again
She looked out at the city
Feels the breeze blow against her face
The warmth of the sun
And realizes
She doesn't know the answers yet
But
It doesn't matter
This is home
And it feels right

New cities bring new horizons. New cities in new countries bring new horizons and new challenges.
Taking a risk, I have found pays off more than staying still. I have found more from changing my place on this planet than I could have imagined.
But often I wish I could sit on so many of the hill sides, in the coffee shops, bookshops, pubs, of my life all at the same time. I have met so many great people that I live so far from and I miss them all. I miss little things from every place I've been.
I have found that with leaving and going elsewhere 'home' becomes where I am at present. But my heart will always be in the Scottish highlands.
Thanks for your poem Chris!!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
I loved your poem. Transported me back to another time in my life when I had choices and wasn't sure if I was making the right ones. Made we want to be there. I was unsure...but at least I had options.
Hiya Kirsty - I guess N'awlns doesn't have many hills does it. If I was there I think I'd do my deep thinking sitting on the porch in a rocking chair watching the sun set. But I've never been so I can't say for sure.
John - you always have such nice things to say & quote. Thanks.
Basest - glad I was able to take you back.
I've been thinking about trying the whole creative writing thing for a bit now. I guess it's the next step from blogging. Thank you all for the encouragement. It's very much appreciated.
Sound like you might have been inspired by England's greatest one armed poet John Lillison.
